    AT&T Surplus Announcement- Limited Information
06/14/19 - International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local Union 21
June 14, 2019 - 2:00 PM Earlier today AT&T announced a surplus affecting IBEW Local Union 21 (IBEW 21) members in Illinois and Northwest Indiana.  In that announcement management informed employees that SIPP packages were being distributed.  They did not offer up any other information or numbers or affected locations.  Many members are asking what is going on. Right now IBEW 21 Leadership is in discussions with the company on how to deal with the surplus and SIPP announcement. Because of these discussions numbers and locations are NOT being released at this time. We know this is frustrating but we do not feel it is fair to play with people’s emotions until we iron out issues concerning the surplus. Simply put things are changing rapidly; by the time you read this message things may have already changed.

Henry Miller, the first President of the IBEW, died in 1896 without enough money for a decent burial.  Miller was not alone.  In the early part of the 20th century accidental electrocution among people employed in the electrical industry occurred with such frequency that many insurance companies refused to insure the lives of electrical workers.
